Seek financial advice to ensure retirement

Q: I am 65 years old and I am ready to retire. I have a 401(k) where I work and I have done well with my account over the years. But now that it's now time to retire, do I need a financial planner or financial adviser? I don't have a clue how to go about this.

Unhappy CBR men mull early retirement

KARACHI: Many of the senior officers of Central Board of Revenue are not happy with the policies being introduced by the organization and have decided to retire early, sources told The News.

Many of them have already resigned and those who are young want to leave and join some other government departments, sources said.

A very senior officer of Customs said many officers currently serving the CBR want to join provincial government departments, as they are not happy with the working conditions in the single largest revenue collecting authority of the country.

A major factor of resentment among the officers is the induction of military officers on higher posts.

While many other government departments have got used to be directed by the military men, this is the first time that the military officers have made inroads in the CBR.

The DAY of Mike Bibby shooting and Ron Artest not retiring

Let's get this out of the way quickly since it's all-Kobe all the time these days. He was hot at the start scoring 17 in the first 9 minutes, but the Warriors made some adjustments to get the ball out of his hands. The Lakers blew a big lead, but ran off a 14-0 run in the fourth keyed by you know who, and they held on for the win. The Warriors had some chances, getting threes that were too little too late, and it just wasn't meant to be. Kobe finished with "only" 43 and 9 rebounds. Lamar Odom had a monster game with 24 and 19 as L.A. out rebounded Golden State by 30 in a 115-113 win. Monta Ellis scored 31 in the loss. The Los Angeles Clippers are suddenly on an inexplicable hot streak, winning four in a row. Golden State is now a game and a half out of the playoffs. We NEED the Warriors to grab that 8th seed so Nellie can scare the Mavs in the first round.

SPTC INJECTS MILLIONS INTO UNDER-FUNDED PENSION

SWAZILAND Posts and Telecommunications Corporation has injected E2 million in cash into the companys Pension, which is faced with a E78 million deficit.

Before the end of the current financial year, a further E8m will be injected into the Fund, the company MD Nathi Dlamini stated in a statement released by the Corporate Communications Manager Lindiwe Dlamini yesterday.

Dlamini said this was in response to SPTCs pensioners petition to the Tourism, Communication minister Thandi Shongwe and also to management.

He said, however, the injection was unlikely to cause a review of the pensioners present stipend, but hoped that if this attempts were sustained, may eventually make it possible to undertake a review of their monthlys emoluments, which have not realised a raise in a long time.

Pension Funds Rising to the Challenge of Ethical Investment

An international movement to make investments more socially responsible is gaining ground, and a recent report hopes the provinces and the financial sector will follow suit.Ira Goldstein was surprised by how smoothly things went.

Several months ago, the Queen's University political science student and a colleague brought to the school principal documents showing that the Kingston, Ont. post-secondary institution had invested in two Chinese oil and gas companies.

PetroChina and China Petroleum were doing business with the Sudanese government and the student youth group, Students Taking Action Now: Darfur, of which Mr. Goldstein was national chairman of divestment, had already pressured several American universities to divest their portfolios of the funds.

"We went in there and gave them best presentation we could," Mr.
